The doctor has been in practice since 1983.  She graduated from New York University College of Dentistry.  Dr. Lavoie holds a Master of Public Health degree in Health Services from Boston University, School of Medicine.  She was also awarded Fellowship status in the Academy of General Dentistry.  The Academy is an organization that promotes continuing education for general dentists and requires continuing education credits beyond those required by the State of Rhode Island.

Dr. Lavoie also has en extensive background in research and teaching.  At Brown University the doctor was a National Science Foundation Research Fellow.

After graduation from dental school Dr. Lavoie was in general practice for four years during which time she was a clinical instructor of operative dentistry at the Boston University School of Dental Medicine.  In 1988 Dr. Lavoie was awarded her first National Institutes of Health Fellowship at the State University of New York at Buffalo.  She furthered her research in neuromuscular disorders and treated patients in the head and neck pain clinic.

Dr. Lavoie returned to RI to practice and later accepted a second National Institutes of Health Fellowship in geriatrics at Boston University Medical Center.  At BU the doctor received advanced training in geriatric dentistry and medicine.  She treated patients in the hospital, nursing homes and saw patients at home as part of the Home Medical Service of Boston University Medical Center.  While at BU the doctor also taught students in pre-clinical prosthetic dentistry.

This year Dr. Lavoie has been voted by her colleagues as one of Rhode Island’s top General Dentists and is listed in the RI Monthly Magazine and in the USA Top Dentists.
